DSi Will Be Out In US, Europe No Later Than Summer 2009 [DSI]

The DSi is out in Japan real soon. But as far as the US and Europe are concerned? Nintendo Europe say “Spring 2009″, Nintendo of America say “late 2009″. But what about Nintendo Japan? They’re the boss, what do they say? Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata says this:

specific plans at one’s desire be unveiled by our local subsidiaries, but an autumn or year-reason launch would probably be too late.

If autumn or winter are too late, then it’ll have to be out in the summer. Or maybe even the spring, if you’re feeling optimistic.

Nintendo says sees overseas DSi launch by next summer [Reuters]

Trouble in the woods for Dubya

This short posting at buzzflash has been circulating around since yesterday. We can’t vouch for its authenticity, but it at least rings true:

Steak Night at the Deer Camp – A South Arkansas Message to George W. by John R. Bomar

Hey George, I hate to have tell you this, son, but they’re talking bad about you out at the deer camp. That’s real bad. When you’ve lost the deer-camp-boys you’re in big trouble around here.

You see, these are the real good ol’ boys, the ones who make up the backbone in this part of the woods. They’re the ones who build the houses, sell the insurance, install the plumbing and fix your air conditioner when it goes on the blink. They’re just regular, hard working Joe’s trying to make life a little better and get ahead. And up to now they’ve done pretty good. Many of them own their own businesses and are members of the chamber and pay a lot of taxes – a lot of taxes. And a whole bunch of them read the papers and keep up with what’s going on in the world.

George, they’re a calling you a liar. Yep, they are. And if it’s one thing they don’t cotton to, it’s a liar, George. They know liars; they’ve had liars for employees and dealt with liars in trying to do businesses. “Cain’t’ trust a liar” just about sums it up around here, George.

Now, if you’re a known liar we’d give you a nod in passing, but we wouldn’t stop to talk. We’d try to be sociable enough if forced to be around you, but we’d leave as soon as possible. Out at the deer camp we’d mostly try and leave you out of the conversation, but if your name came up we’d all give each other that look that says; “yea, we know about dealin’ with him.”

That’s bad George. Real bad … real hard to get over around here, George.

I guess it’s partly cause we come from pioneer stock. Most of our people moved here from Tennessee and Alabama, and before that Georgia and the Carolinas and some from Virginia. We come from a long line of survivors, George. Only the survivors got this far. They survived by their wits and hard, honest work, with a little luck thrown in. Excuse’ me for saying so, but they also learnt’ real early how to separate the chicken salad from the chicken s****, George. They watched out for what people did rather than pay too much attention to what they said. Their Grandpas taught em’ that.

And, oh yea, these ol’ boys, they really don’t like being played for a fool when they’ve kindly given you the benefit of the doubt. On a scale of one to ten George, that’s a ten.

Yep, deer-camp-boys are proud of their roots and try and hold on to the old ways, as much as they can nowadays. They know the understanding and teachings of their Grannies come hard learned. They’re hardscrabble folk, George, and they judge a man by his handshake, the honesty in his eye and the sincerity in his voice. They’re nice enough when you first meet, that’s the way their Mama’s raised them, but they don’t really take you in till you’ve proved yourself. You know that puddin’ George, its proof tells the tale.

Well, guess that’s about it, friend. Just thought I’d pass this along in case you was interested. Cause when you lose the deer-camp-boys around here, George, there ain’t much left.

Thank You

For 17 months we brought the message of peace, freedom, and prosperity to millions of Americans. The response overwhelmed me: more Americans believe in liberty and the Constitution than I ever imagined. I am deeply moved and honored by your hard work and sacrifice on behalf of our cause.

However, after much serious thought, I have decided to end my campaign for the Presidency of the United States. It is time now to take the energy this campaign has awakened and channel it into long-term efforts to take back our country. We have some exciting plans and projects to move the revolution forward that will come together in the next several months. Watch for them.

I will work until my last breath on behalf of this great message. That I promise you. We don’t have to live in the kind of America the two major parties have in store for us. Together, let us continue to lay the foundations for an America worthy of our Founding Fathers.

Ron Paul

Minox’s new SpyCam: is it the smallest decent digital camera?

oldTLXminox.jpgminox’s spycam, a pygmy small digital bond gadget here half the size of a normal digicam, is obsolete in 6 days, 22 hours, 8 minutes and 15 seconds. at the continuously of leader, of course!

To be launched at Photokina, the cam has a 3.2 megapixel sensor, 128 MB of memory and a MicroSD card slot. It can shoot VGA movies, too. There’s even a flash expansion unit, as the minuscule base doesn’t have one.

What’s always struck me about digital cameras is that most have a more-or-less identical form factor. Almost every consumer model is a little under an inch thick and about four inches long. Canon’s squared-off Elph series is somewhat distinctive of the genre, while Casio’s Exilims typically shave off a bit here and there compared to the competition. Minox’s SpyCam, however, promises a severe drop in size, but without the 0.3-megapixel trappings of something horrible from the crapvendors.

Schlage

Minox recently retired its TLX (pictured) and halved the retail price on remaining inventory, opening the way for September 24′s replacement.

Daily Dose of Hotness: Megan Fox

I would never want to be called sexist, so, to be fair, here’s a female Daily Dose of Hotness for a change.

Megan Fox graces the cover of the new GQ — and, yes, she does it well. In a barely-there bikini and a sexy little pose (you know guys are mesmerized by any kind of tongue action), sales for the men’s mag are probably going to break some records this month.

So what does Meg have to say about her Transformers success?

“If I get stuck doing comic book ?lms for the rest of my life, I’ll be really happy,” she tells the magazine. “I love those types of movies. And I don’t mind being sexy ? if it’s a character with a back story and an arc and something progresses.”

You hear that? She doesn’t mind being sexy.

Yeah, me neither.

UPDATE: Former Village Manager Pavlicek suing village

Former Downers Grove Village Manager Cara Pavlicek filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the village seeking in excess of $150,000 damages and alleging the Village Council didn’t have reason to fire her in May.

The lawsuit filed in DuPage County Circuit Court by Pavlicek’s attorney Steven Hartmann states, “The village has breached the terms of the agreement by its failure to pay Pavlicek the severance payment, provide 12-months continued health insurance and pay for all her accrued and unused vacation,” and that the village is in violation of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act.

According to the lawsuit, Pavlicek is seeking compensatory damages in excess of $150,000. Hartmann said that he will be speaking on Pavlicek’s behalf, but was unavailable for comment on Friday.

Mayor Ron Sandack confirmed the village’s attorneys received the lawsuit and an official response to the public is being formulated. He said the Village Council stands by its decision to fire Pavlicek.

“We just got the lawsuit; the village was just served,” Sandack said. “We have it in the hands of our capable attorneys. We feel confident we had grounds under the contract to make the decision we made.”

The lawsuit claims that in 2007 Pavlicek was given a “positive performance review” as well as a four percent increase in her wages making her salary $146,390.

The reasons behind Pavlicek’s termination and her job performance were discussed by the Village Council on several occasions in closed executive session and not released to the public citing privacy concerns.

Pavlicek was hired as village manager in November of 2005. Prior to being fired, Pavlicek was placed on administrative leave on April 22.

Before being hired by the village of Downers Grove Pavlicek was the city administrator in La Vista, Neb.
